| Imagine this: you are the landlord. You show guests your model home to see if they like it or not. If they like it, then they sign a contract and agree to move in and help pay the rent. When they move in, they may live with certain restrictions (no pets, no children, no cars, no computer games playing at night, and no loud music). If the landlord catches you breaching these restrictions, then you are instantly kicked out of the apartment complex! That's the type of game challenge that I have set myself and am currently playing in my neighborhood Riverside. I have built Riverside Village, a village with apartment duplexes all hosted by the landlord. The landlord is a Sim I've made: John Peter Greaves. He may be a grouchy Fortune Sim, but deep down, I think he has a tender side. It's a business, because I want Sims to come to his property. He is going to get his money from a career job or painting or harvesting money trees. That's how the business is maintained. The business sign controls when the model house is "open" or "closed". If open, he may use the model house to show guests/customers/clients what it's like to live there. If closed, he may use the model house as his personal residence. The other apartment homes on the property are all closed (for now), until they are filled up. If a Townie wanders on a lot and makes good relations with John Peter, then the Townie may move in, sign a contract as part of the story, browse through an apartment, and move in. The Townie may have to have a job or do whatever he can to support the apartment-business of the landlord. In return, the Townie gets the benefit of living in an instant community! I can't wait to start playing this game! Yea! |

| That sounds interesting. I'll be interested in how it goes for you. I've never tried that with an apartment. But I have with more than one house on the lot, intending to have separate dwellings and that didn't work well since the Sims treated it like one big house and were always in each other's houses. But an apartment building or lot that's set up for separate dwellings might work very well. I have one neighborhood that I created for challenges and this might be one I could try in that neighborhood. Lilly | |

Lilly I actually do not have Apartment Life, so I actually cannot make a "real" apartment. So, instead of starting an apartment, I just make a normal residential lot and start a home business on it. This home business does not really sell anything, but it does have a open/closed sign to mark the opening hours of business. The home business will actually be maintained not directly through the customers' purchase (though, you know, I could sell magazines and video games and paintings), but mainly maintained through the lot owner's personal salary. The lot owner is the Apartment Landlord, who lives on the lot. (It is, after all, a residential home business.) Basically he makes friends, and friends move in, sign a contract (just for the sake of story, not really implemented in the game), and move in (with certain living restrictions, like no pets or having babies or playing loud music at night or no littering). The Apartment Landlord is fairly lenient, as he gives out warnings for misconduct, but when he can't handle a tenant anymore, he begins to lose his temper and force the misbehaving tenant to move out. Please note I'm describing it in terms of a story, really. The reason why I'm making it a business lot is so that more visitors will actually come to the lot. A normal residential lot without a business will actually have a few visitors, and that's it. That's barely sufficient to run an apartment, because the purpose is to wait for some visitors to actually sit in the office or become acquainted with the landlord-manager before they move in. Since it's rather very story-oriented, that's the best thing I can describe. Hope it gives you a mental picture, though! |

| Oh, that's very creative Anonymity. You are making it work for you and your story. I have one challenge that I got creative with as well. It's a challenge that was from CCgraduate2010 which was posted on the BBS Forum on TS2 official site. It is done with tne Newsom kids. They are all related when you put them into a neighborhood. She unrelated the 6 of them using Sim PE (which I don't have). Then, the challenge was starting with oldest Gavin (who marries a townie) and then their son will marry the next in age, Ginger when he grows up. Then, Ginger marries a townie and their son, marries the next in line, etc. The boys marry the daughter of the former sibling just above them in age and the girls marry the son of the former sibling just above them in line. I use the order of their thumbnails to determine age as well as the days they are old--so oldest to youngest by the pictures would be Gavin (at the top) to Garrett (at the bottom). I have my first generation done. Since I don't have Sim PE, I went into a Newsom house and got as much information on the kids as possible and then re-created, one at a time, in a Young Adult neighborhood or university. I also changed the last name to Newton. So, Gavin went to Uni and met, fell in love with and married Cadence Larrea. Their first child, was a daughter, Genesis. She's free to do whatever she wants. Their second child, was a son, Geoffrey who will go to Uni to meet (and if plans work out) marry Ginger. Ginger is waiting for him in the Young Adult bin. I checked and their isn't anything that would make them repulsed by each other. I stop when an heir is produced so that should make it easy to continue using the letter "G" for the NooBoos which I've done with Genesis and Geoffrey. I have a whole list of "G" names for both boys and girls. Now, Gavin and Cadence's family is complete. Genesis and Geoffrey are both children and Genesis will soon age transition to a teen. Geoffrey is three Sim days behind Genesis in age. It's fun to play. I have them living in one of the Mansion & Garden houses which they could quickly afford (without motherlode) as Gavin and Cadence both graduated from college and so get a head start in the game. (Also, I bought stuff with the extra funds while they were in college and put it into Gavin's inventory. Then either used it or sold it for cash when they moved into their first "starter" home.) Hmmmmm, I think it's time to go back in and play some with this family, again. Once they are teen for a few days, then I can send them off to Uni. I'm one of the Simmers who actually keeps the age difference when I send them off. So, Geoffrey won't go to Uni until Genesis is a Senior and she'll be 3 days into adulthood and maybe married with a NooBoo before Geoffrey graduates and returns to the Isle of Capris. It's more of a challenge to me that way to try to keep the age difference the same. I hope you have as much fun playing your apartment manager story. Simmers can be really creative with the TS2 game (and TS3 as well) with a little bit of imagination and some story telling. Lilly | |
