Before placing the carpet, hold the Shift Key down and you can see what will be placed on the entire floor. By releasing the Shift Key taping the (.), it will turn the square to another position. Hold the Shift Key down again to see another pattern. I don't think using the cheat for the (45 degree angle) really matters if it's on or off - as I previously mentioned.
