Simmie emotions.

Hi guys! Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but I thought it might be. I was wondering do you guys think sims can feel 'depressed'? I know they feel happy, sad, etc. When a loved one dies or something but do you think they can feel depressed? I was just wondering since I've been feeling a little depressed here lately!

I'm responding concerning my TS2 game. Sims seem to have a wide range of reactions to things. :o , etc. And, I've found that there is a variation in the emotions and reactions from Sim to Sim. I'm guessing it is somewhat dependent on their personality and relationship. Also, the more EPs that are added, the more complex the Sim personalities become. They certainly show sadness and distress when grieving over a dead Sim. And, lots of anger when they have a burglar break in. And, of course there is jealousy. And, there's joy and happiness and some Sims seem to be ecstatic about promotions. And, with this game as soon as I think I've seen it all, then I see a new reaction. I know that many Sims react negatively to stinky Sims including a stinky diaper--some even roll fears of changing a sinky diaper. But I have one Sim child, called Catriona, who has an extremely negative reaction and just carries on and on and once I even caught her lecturing her baby (infant) brother who was in his crib because he had a dirty diaper. No one else in the family reacts that negatively and I have no other Sim children who react like that. So, keeps the game interesting. And, I have some Sim couples who keep "heart-farting" each other and who will spontaneously hold hands or kiss each other.

Sorry to hear that you are depressed. I hope that you can figure out something to turn that around. When that happens to me I do something different and in my Sim game, I play a different neighborhood or family or download some CC. New CC always make me smile. And, unfortunately, so does making families in CAS--the problem--I can easily over-populate my neighborhood. Sometimes I'll switch to lot building or re-modeling. Don't know if that would work for you but I hope that your depression turns to joy, very soon.

I have never really had sims just randomly hold hands, or kiss their husband/wife, although I when I do see it I think it's so cute and sweet!

The stuff I talked about happens when I have free will on and just let them interact however they want to. In other words, there are no actions in the queue (or line of interactions on the top left of the screen). They do react according to their relationships and personality. It fun to watch. And, I've also seen new interactions that way. Probably one of the funniest was what happened to one of the Nannies. She put a full (just fed) toddler back in the high chair and I'm like "What?! She's full. Why are you doing that? " I decided to watch. The Nanny got the toddler pablum or food in the bowl and set it on the highchair tray. The toddler put her fingers in the bowl and stirred the food with her fingers. I'm expecting her to eat it and wondering if toddlers can get fat from over-eating. But no need to worry. She put her hand (full of the food) back by her head and hurled it at the Nanny. :o It was so funny to see the blue flash of food strike the Nanny. The Nanny is tssking and blaming the mother and I'm laughing and saying "serves you right". It's one of the funniest things that I've seen. And, that happened with my just letting the game play by itself. So, if you ever want to have some fun, try just letting your game play itself. :veryhappy: If you don't like what happens you can always exit without saving. Lilly

That incident with the Nanny only happened once, so it must be rare. And, I have no idea why it happened. Mostly, I've found that Nannies don't do well at child care. I had one that just before the parents were coming home from work, would go into the nursery, take the infant out of the crib and put her on the floor. And, usually when the infant or toddler needs something like a diaper change, the Nanny is watching TV, reading the newspaper, shooting baskets, taking a bath or anything but taking care of the child. But, then I've had Nannies also potty train toddlers. That also surprises me. The latest one was in my McGreggor famiy (Riverblossom Hills). All of a sudden I see Rossalyn crawling toward the bathroom and wonder what she's doing. In her queue is the use potty symbol. And, I'm like "What?!" I didn't potty train her. (I ususally teach toddlers the walk skill first.) Sure enough she goes in and uses the potty (in the bathroom from use by her older sisters, Catriona and Ilisa). So, I check her memory and sure enough it shows the Nanny potty trained her. Not sure when as I was busy with other Sims.

Let me know if you get a Nanny who has food thrown at her by a toddler. I can't force it as usually when a too full toddler asks a Nanny for food, she refuses. (And, in this reaction, the toddler did not ask the Nanny for more food. The Nanny did the interaction spontaneously. I'm thinking someone at EA has a sense of humor.) Even if you don't see that interaction, you may see others.

@Lilly. How do you make them play themselves? Is there a command?

BBdoll you just sit back and watch your sims interact by themselves (with free will on). You don't have to cue anything, just let the sims do what they want, and usually autonomous actions pop up that only happens when you let them do what they want. For example, in my game Mortimer and Bella Goth, who are madly in love, are alsys going outside together to either watch the clouds or stars together. Always. It gets to be a pain because I can hardly get them to do anything because they're constantly doing that! LOL If you leave the stereo on, and your toddler is on free will, and is needing some fun, they will autonomously dance with the stereo; it's very cute! Like Lilly mentioned there are some interactions that only happen autonomously; there isn't an interaction you can que to make those things happen. I think that was Maxis' way of keeping the game intriguing.

Yup! CindaLove is right. With free will on, you just sit back and watch. And, sometimes I do it but playing a couple Sims in a household and just letting the others interact as they will and then check to see what they are doing which has led to seeing some interesting interactions. Lilly

well i think reaction and emotion wise sim related, it depends on his/ her personality. kinda like real life, everyone takes things differently. i have a neighborhood called "Uglyville", which kills off nice looking sims. usually, when the sims die, alot at one time, the sim is really sad, or depressed.

to the user whom is depressed, try to find ways to make you happy, like playing the sims, writing, do what you enjoy to help u feel better.

Ok, I'll try that. I know one time I left it on and forgot. Went and cooked dinner, ate and came back just to see a bunch of urns all over the house. Weeds outside and (1) HEAD stuck on my screen. @ that time I think I saved my game accidently. LoL Live and Learn, wouldn't you say?

Now when I play, when I sit and look, they don't do what I think they should, and they get in the red, yellow and oranges. Nothing gets done and I see the Reaper. LoL Especially when you get those CRAZY Love Struck female sims who only have eyes for the male.

BBdoll. I don't leave the game run that long; it's on only for a short time or just for a little while. And, I'm watching their needs, so if necessary, I interrupt them. And, usually their needs are high and taken care of when I just let them "do their own thing."

I use the pause and the save button a lot because otherwise just what you talked about happens and saving more often helps to keep the game running better--read that somewhere. Of course, I still get Sims flirting and doing the jealousy bit.

Like Lilly says you don't walk away for long periods of time with your game running itself; their motives will bottom out and lead to disaster. When I just want to sit and watch what they'll do, first I top off their motives with the cheat maxmotives then watch, that way I don't to waste time trying to keep all of my sims motives up. Most of the time though, I play my sims with the cheat maxmotives and then enter the cheat motivedecay off, so my sims can focus on building skill and building relationships.
