Well, my bby - Ramses is getting his surgery now.  sad  I took him in at 8:30.  I was told not to let him eat anything after 8 p.m.  No food, or water!  Got up this morn around 7 a.m. and he was sitting at the door.  We let him out and then I heard Richard yelling!  Carl, Ramses got **** everywhere!  I thought, Oh My Gosh!   buggout

I ran out of the bathroom and Ram was sitting in the hallway.  I was looking at the carpet and Richard was busy cleaning.  Turn and looked at Ramses, he had Booooo all on his side and all on his bad leg.  scaredy   How that happened I have no dang idea.  I tried to clean it up with a rag, but that was a job for the shower - Again!  LoL  I had to give him another shower, as I gave him one last nite so he would be fresh and clean.

My back started hurting like crazy, but I had to ignore that pain and get him ready as it was already 8 a.m.  I got him cleaned and all, and he was ready and eagar to go - until we got ready to go into the Vet's office, then it was "Tug-of-War".  unhappydance   He did not want to go.

Anyway, now I'm off to get his crate cuz he has to stay immobile for 6-8 weeks.  Now the fun begins.  unhappydance    I sent my cuz a text asking her to pray Loudly for me and Ram, and these 6 weeks will go fast without any issues!  She called and sang a church song on my phone.  angel   Okay, gotta go.  Have a good day all!  mickeywave

LOL it sounds like what could have went wrong did when you were trying to get him in to the vet! Dogs will be dogs and will always try to roll in poo and other nasty stuff to camouflage their scent to other dogs and animals (I'm sure it has the desired effect LOL). It will definitely be a challenge. Might I suggest when it comes time to get him in his crate, always use a very sweet voice/tone when dealing with him, treats, fave toys and bed. It's very important that he associate his crate with something positive, and it actually would have benefitted you and Ramses if you would have had the crate there at least a week before his surgery for you to introduce to him and get him used to it. But it's very important to be patient, gentle and calm towards him no matter if he balks or whatever his antics when trying to get him in and staying in the crate. I successfully trained two of my cats to sleep in a crate by doing the above, and the remaining cat I have (the other passed away) still sleeps in her crate willingly (I leave the door open at all times). The main objective is to make the crate a positive experience for him.

goodluck getwell Ramses!

BBdoll, my heart really goes out to you! I was crying reading this. I went through a similar situation a year ago - just before Christmas. My wonderful Ridgeback got liver dystrophy and went through surgery and had to be kept still for 6 weeks. He didn't make it though.

So I'm praying that all goes well with Ramses and that he'll be well and running around in a few weeks.

Bless your heart and God bless your back. Poor Ramses, he must have been so upset.

Cinda gave some really good advice for making the crate a friendlier place for him.

Your cousin sounds like such a darling peach! It was precious that she sang to you.

Hope the 1st day home will have minimal struggles and pain for you all.
dog

Hugs, Nonni

Awww Ladies, each one of you have mademyday ! Thanks sooo much, Cindy for the great advise. I do think if I had bought the crate before surgery, and did an introduction, it would have been so much easier for both of us. My hubby was 'not' liking the crate either, and caused me additional stress. But it all worked out. This is so new to all of us, so you can image all of the tension going on here, but it's getting better.

I was up all nite with Ram, watching him, as I did take that cone off, and he rested much better, but I kept dosing off cause I took a pain pill for my back. I'd jump and look at Ram and had to really focus. lol1  That pain pill was making me see Ramses in all sorts of shapes. giggle

He was bleeding around his incisions so I kept a cool compress on it. I think it was bleeding cuz he kept moving around try to get comfy. I called them this morn and she side it should not have been bleeding and he's not to move around. scaredy  But he's much better this morning, and for some reason he keeps wanted to lay on that lag, not sure why. She said if there's more bleeding to bring him in because he should not be doing that.

@Noni, you are right, my cousin is my rock and I heartpump  her so much. She can't sing a lick, but I heartpump  her kind heart. She makes me laugh and I can call her about anything and she's always there for me, as I am for her. Ramses was upset indeed, cuz soon as I brought him in he was ready to chase those cats. We closed the binds so he can't see out. Even with his let hurting he's ready to take off.

Awww MaAlet... You are such a kind gentle soul. thanx  I'm sorry to hear of your lose. I can image how you must've felt. I think about my two pets who passed away. Our last pet, Snap, we had him cremated and we have him on our mantle in a nice box with his fav pet toy on top. Frisco, we had buried at the puppy cemetery.

Thanks again Ladies. It's gonna be a long 6 weeks. heartpump  you all.

mickeywave  Hi BBdoll,

It sounds like Ramses gave you a bit of a difficult time but that the surgery went well and that he's on his way to recovery.

My thougths and prayers continue to be with you, your husband and Ramses.

tnx4sharing  and keeping us up-dated.
